Spring Break Farm History
The land that is now known as "Spring Break Farm" is part of the land where Canadian explorer Samuel de Champlain portaged through its forests and followed its rivers from the upper Great Lakes towards the great St. Lawrence river in the 1600s. This land has been sustaining families since the original Crown Patent was awarded by the British government to its first recorded owners in 1835. We feel very privileged to be its stewards in our lifetime.
Though we had abandoned our farm roots years before in favour of living in a small town in central Ontario we both desired to return to the country. In 1995 as our working careers were winding down we started to look for a country property - perhaps 10-20 acres where we could enjoy country living again. What we didn’t anticipate was that this unique property of 170 acres would become available and that we would embark on another joint career of full-time farming. We proposed a 5 year plan to renovate the existing farm house, restore the farm buildings and return the land to productivity.
We now have a working beef cow/calf operation with a kitchen garden for our supply of vegetables, fruit and herbs as well as trial gardens for testing tomato varieties. May of 2010 will mark the third year for our Annual Heirloom Tomato Seedling Sale.
We invite you to browse our web site and discover Spring Break Farm.
